My Kiwis by Haley

These are my kiwis. One of them I got from a store. The other my Dad gave to me. Kiwis are important because they're the country bird of New Zealand. There aren't very many of them alive in the wild. They eat grubs and bugs. They are flightless birds. Kiwis only live in New Zealand.

My kiwi keychain's name is Rua. Rua means "two" in Maori. I named it Rua because it is the second kiwi that I've got. The other Kiwi's name is Fuzz. Both of the stuffed kiwis squeak.

There's also a kind of fruit called the kiwi fruit. The people in New Zealand call everybody kiwis. I like it.

Hi Haley,
I sure liked hearing about your kiwis and seeing the pictures. Have you seen kiwis in the zoo? I hope that they are protected since there aren't very many in the wild.
Do you call your friends kiwis?
Love you and miss you,
Grandma Cathy

Hmmm. I wonder if the fruit is called Kiwi fruit because it looks like a Kiwi? Fuzzy, you know. Or maybe it is because it grows in the land of Kiwis, New Zealand. I think I need to look that up. You made me curious!
love,

Rua trilliant kiwis, there, Hailstorm. I think I'm going to have to go with Fuzz as my favorite. Looks like he needs favorite status more.

We miss you, girl. Please make sure you make the kiwis squeak a lot in honor of us.
